Wow. Paris just voted to triple the parking costs for SUVs.
A huge victory in the fight against car bloat.

@davidzipper yaaaayy!👍
@davidzipper
Less than 6% participation still binding?
@davidzipper This is awesome.
I read in my local paper this week that #Norwich is projected to loose 1000 parking spaces as it seeks to accommodate SUVs because it wants to expand the size of each space to accommodate them.
City dwellers living on narrow streets like mine don’t own SUVs. It’s affluent Tory voters from the the surrounding countryside that are causing this issue. I really want to make it prohibitively expensive for them to come into my city. We have park and rides - use them.
@davidzipper would have though having half the car parks inaccessible to anything bigger than a Clio would have been enough😋, but glad this has gone through. Worth also mentioning Paris already has more stringent emissions rules than London’s ULEZ , and will be zero emissions only cars by 2030
@davidzipper love it. I can almost hear the impending wave of lawsuits if that was done in the U.S.
Vive la France!
@davidzipper I dont have a problem with SUVs. Indeed I drive onemyself. What I question is the giant pickup trucks where the sides are too high to lift anything in and out of the back
Tax all crypto transactions at 50% Set the referendum now.
@davidzipper could backfire
"Look i can affort to waste money" is basically the thesis of luxury goods.
@davidzipper Wow, love to see it!
@davidzipper What a clever move. I really wish the registration fees for pick-up trucks and SUVs in the US were higher. They are not only gas guzzlers, but road hazards to anyone who walks, rides a bike or drives a smaller vehicle.
@davidzipper @Eramdam My kingdom for the economic mandates that resulted in kei cars to be everywhere
@davidzipper It makes sense.
@davidzipper seems fair
@davidzipper the headline is misleading.
Paris has voted for ANY non Paris registered CAR over that is over 1.6t (for non-EV) or 2t (for EV) to be charged extra to park.
ANY CAR.
The reporting on this has been abysmal. Or people/reporters are too stupid to realise how much cars actually weigh now.
Considering how many cars this hits, its also performative environmentalism/safetyism. Which globally we are beset with, thanks to our rubbish politicians who are only about the look of a thing
@davidzipper As far as I can see, not for Parisians.
@davidzipper Won't stop rich Parisians . From the BBC: About 1.3m residents of central Paris were eligible to vote. However they will not be affected by the result as street-parking for local residents will remained unchanged.
The move is mainly aimed at people from the suburbs who drive into the centre of the capital for the day.
@davidzipper
Well, any Paris inhabitants can still own, drive and park a big polluting SUV, since this will *not* apply to them 🤡
@davidzipper Hate these fucking things, not least because I can't see around them and can't find my parked car anymore. It is entertaining to watch them try to park tho
