One of these is cool.
The other one is made of stainless steel.
@octothorpe I guess it’s about context right? Compared to the original mini it’s huge, absolutely. But compared to the average CUV on US roads today it’s pretty small — in a good way. I for one would love an electric clubman in that exact size and shape. Hell maybe I’ll convert one, one day.
@avi oh totally. The average car size is radically out of control. I think the modern clubman is actually larger than my RS5 (it is taller, sure, but I mean length), and my car isn’t tiny.
@avi I haven’t figured out what my next car will be. It should be electric, but with modern cars all just being data exploitation vectors, I kinda wanna plop an electric motor in a 1970’s era Mercedes SL.
@octothorpe I think a retrofit is a fantastic idea, depending on how much time you spend at high speeds. Anyone who spends lots of time on highways should have a modern crash structure, IMO.
There are so many great classic cars that would be phenomenal with an EV swap. Tons of great choices.
Plus, it’s not hard to find deals on nice older cars that have unpopular drivetrains. So there are potential deals in the mix.
E.g. I will one day convert a 3rd gen Camaro to electric. And I’ll probably find a nice old V6 automatic to convert and it won’t be too pricey.
@octothorpe well my next vehicle purchase that I’m most excited about is the Aptera. Check it out! https://aptera.us let me know if you want my referral code for 30% off the refundable reservation deposit.
