TIL that CSS native variables (custom properties) are widely supported — have been for ~7 years now!

The first rule is:

:root {
--main-accent-color: palegreen;
}

and then one of the following rules contains this property:

border: 5px solid var(--main-accent-color);

and another contains this:

background-color: var(--main-accent-color);

pretty cool!

What’s not so cool is that I’m mixing px units and em units. Ugh I am not good a the CSS.
