New article: "Healing Symbolism in the Japanese Legend of the Woman Diver"

Sydney Solis interviewed me during her most recent sojourn in Japan. I summarize a legend of a woman diver and its ancient history, based on original source research all in Japanese. Then we both interpret its rich symbolism in terms of depth psychology. Among our conclusions is that archetypes in the story, such as the divine feminine, activated by the natural symbolism of diving into the depths, could help heal our modern alienation of the mind from the body and nature.

For my inability to sleep, or to eat, or, to trust the truth of my own thoughts growing up
I've wanted to say sorry
To my Dad
For the powers he gave me that he really needed for himself

For the fear I caused, my desire to die and the actual consideration of it as a teenager
And I am sorry
But I grow to realize that things are different than I thought
We hunt for reason, for accurate causation in our moments of greif and misery
But I was too weak to have had any control or true perception of reality
Too young
I was abused and traumatized into denying my own memories and feelings and it hurt the people that I love the most
The reality is that tragedies happen
And they've happened to me
And I caused pain to others who cared for me
Tragedies happen just like miracles
Unexpectedly sometimes
And in strengths of emotions you could never have imagined your body was capable of feeling
I am so sorry
It makes me sad
But I am happy to let go
It's my responsibility to heal
But it's not my fault that I've been ill

Time to redo my #introduction.

My name is Shaseni ("SHOSS-en-ee") and I live in #Colorado having immigrated from Scotland in the aughts. I'm quirky, and long retired from software development and teaching. I've been on Mastodon since April 2018.

My paganism is #Kemetic, working with the same deities that Ancient Egyptians worshipped, and my magic is #heka. Shaseni is a Kemetic name given to me by the goddess Nit (Neith) and the god Set, and it means "I tread on my enemies."

My pagan journey has taken me from living in a Hindu ashram when I was 20, through Taoism, the White Eagle Lodge, Heathenry, Kuan Yin and Buddhism, through to Kemetic Orthodoxy. I'm now in my 70s, and I feel as though I'm on fairly good terms with many deities and several buddhas.

Since my 20s, I've been involved with #healing, #magic, and practiced and taught many forms of #divination. I do read professionally. My favorite is Robin Scott's #UrbanTarot as I share her view that magic and wisdom belong not only to forgotten forests, places untouched by human hands, and to ages long lost to memory, but to my world, where around me I see beauty, wonder, and magic in the metropolis and power under the pavement.

I'm a #writer: a #storyteller and #poet manqué. My works are out there, under various pen names, if you're desperate. You'll find an overcooked motley of prose and poems from midnight streets; eat quickly and don't ask what the meat is.

I'm #transfem, #femsexual, and married. I'm politically left. I talk too much, eat too much, drink too little, love good curry, read romantic #yuri #manga, and embrace the Absurd.
