That the less evil big party won #ge2024 shouldn’t mask the problem: this result is a democratic scandal. More so than general elections before.
It’s going to be the lowest vote share for a single party government ever.
Turnout overall likely down as well.
Greens + Reform that together will be 20% of votes will have just 1.2% of seats.
There was some hysterical crap from the Telegraph in the lead-up to this election but this one from Camilla Tominey has to be amongst the worst of it.

The Tory/Reform vote total is over a million GREATER than the Labour total (which is itself not spectacular at all).
Nothing is over or certain going forward. When the far right coordinates better in terms of the shitty UK voting system they have the votes. They just need to decide how to get them all together in one place. This is a warning.

At the moment Labour have one MP for every 25,000 voters.
The green party have one MP for every 475000 voters.
Labour voters have 19 times the representation of Greens per voter.
This is why we need Proportional Representation.
(Yes, I know that means Reform would have far more seats too, that's a different problem to solve)
Fantastic news that the #Greens won all 4 of their target seats!
Same number of seats as Reform UK, but only one of those parties achieved that through good old-fashioned grass-roots campaigning, while being largely ignored by the media instead of being bigged up by them at every turn, and without dirty Russian money backing them.
I know which I find more impressive.
Oh and maybe Duncan Smith too? That would be too beautiful. #GE2024
Here's a few of the prep tasks we've done for the UK General Election in/around our team:
- Add extra CDN/peering capacity
- Ensure personal & machine credentials & TLS cert work & won't expire
- Raise service quotas for safety
- Check that deployment pipeline are clean/deployable
- Ask 3rd parties to be extra-vigilant on change requests
- Rehearse failovers to backup systems
- Make sure all logging/metrics are working correctly
Probably mainly/all pretty obvious but maybe useful.

The 2010 Conservative manifesto pledged to “replace the Human Rights Act with a UK Bill of Rights”. The HRA was only 12 years old at this stage.
14 years later, and despite the best efforts (ahem) of authoritarians, xenophobes and bullies like Suella Braverman and Dominic Raab, the Human Rights Act is still here and, after today, the Tories won’t be.
If there’s one thing I’ve enjoyed about the Tories, it’s their ineptitude.
