Dr Matthew Rimmer is a Professor in Intellectual Property and Innovation Law at the Faculty of Business and Law, at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He has published widely on copyright law and information technology, patent law and biotechnology, access to medicines, plain packaging of tobacco products, intellectual property and climate change, Indigenous Intellectual Property, and intellectual property and trade. He is undertaking research on intellectual property and 3D printing; the regulation of robotics and artificial intelligence; and intellectual property and public health (particularly looking at the coronavirus COVID-19). At work I'm an engineering leader for a big software company that makes some issue tracking stuff - you've probably heard of them, but I don't speak for them (updated 2023-09). I come from a systems engineering background, so I'm super passionate about working hard to be lazy and getting infrastructure / deployment / operations / etc out of the way so my engineers (and our customers) can get on with just building cool stuff.
At home I used to have hobbies, but now I have two young kids. I believe that you can love #StarTrek and #StarWars. I make / drink a lot of #coffee - #espresso and #v60 and #aeropress. I'm a sucker for "reality" cooking shows. I love watching sport, and try to keep a pretty open mind as to what sport it is, but I particularly enjoy #AFL, #F1 / #Formula1, and #Cricket.
In a past life I worked in political polling, so every once in a while I get excited by politics. Then I spend some time following it. Then I often end up wanting to scoop my eyes out with a rusty spoon.
When I can, I fire up the gaming laptop - mostly games that I bought many years ago and just keep playing - #EuroTruckSimulator2 #halo #diablo3
I prefer my photography to be free range: I operate without a studio, without lights or reflectors, and without props. Sports photography is a passion of mine. I’ve always loved sports - both participating and watching - and this is just an extension of that. Any sport, any time, anywhere.
