My questions:
Is there a different social media platform that is less antisemitic?
Are all social media platforms antisemitic?
Is antisemitism a cultural problem that you can not solve with technical platforms/software?
I am curious and want to learn. Hope my questions are okay. If they are not tell me, please.
I've heard people say that if we're no worse than X, Facebook, Instagram, etc. then what's the problem.
That's entirely the wrong approach, for two reasons.
First and fundamentally, it's a bad metric.
Imagine if I had 10 guests to a dinner party, and you were one of them. If I poured 10 cups of sewer water in each glass and passed one to each guest, I don't think the question you would ask would be "Did I get the same amount of sewage as everyone else?"
Secondly, we have to ask what else people get out of social media- what other features or benefits they derive. Think about it this slogan, "The Fediverse: Just as much hate and harassment as X, and only 0.18% of the userbase."
@serge I agree with you last paragraph. I kind of disagree with your second to last paragraph.
To continue your picture. People get sewage water at two parties/events. At one event they complain. At the other they shrug.
This is what I dislike.
But in the end you wrote the most important statements in second and third paragraph. We should not care if other platforms are better or worse. We should care we become better.
