Begging leftists who would never consider themselves to be antisemitic to make sure they don’t accidentally sound that way when criticizing Josh Shapiro, the only Jew in the running to be Kamala’s VP. Support for Israel is the Democratic Party position and all the potential VPs have the same basic position. So if you’re only screaming “genocide” at the Jew, well, that’s something you should maybe sit with for a minute and think more deeply about. Your Jewish friends might appreciate it.
Anyone who responds to this toot with anything besides empathy and the understanding that they are speaking to the son and grandson of Holocaust survivors will be blocked immediately. I’m not here to fight with you. I’m just here to ask my leftist friends to try and be fucking normal about the Jew in the running for VP, especially right now while everything is fucked up. Just this once. Just be fucking normal about him. Please.
@fraying
My first choice (which I posted about here on Mastodon two weeks ago when he was the other Jewish candidate considered very much in the running) was JB Pritzker. He's still my first choice. Thank you for giving me some language to talk about my discomfort with Shapiro in a way that's not alienating to you
And though it shouldn't need to be said, I will vigorously support Kamala no matter who she chooses
@fraying This post is how I learnt that we're talking about a certain Josh and not a certain Ben (I always forget how common this surname is), so thank you for having posted it. I'll be more careful about the word going around.
I gotta tell you, the Jews in your life? We’re fucking exhausted. The antisemitism is coming from all corners right now. Your Jewish friends would appreciate disclaimers, like: “I think it’d be great to have a Jewish VP, but Shapiro has said x, y, and z, which means he’s not going to be the forceful anti-war voice we I think we need.” That would be a perfectly cromulent way to put it.
But just screaming “Genocide!” At the one Jew is a bad look and it’s gonna make your friends wonder about you.
