Located on the western tip of Oʻahu is Kaʻena Point. Island lore has it that this dramatic lava shoreline is the place where the souls of ancient Hawaiians would jump off into the spirit world to be reunited with the souls of their ancestors. Although accessible only by hiking, with scenic views of the Waiʻanae coast to the south, Mokulēʻia to the north, and the vast Pacific, the views are well worth the walk. The area is also a state park and bird sanctuary.
