#Paris has removed the paving from its city hall square and transformed it into an #Urbanforest
#Urbanism #OWGF #SolarPunk #ClimateAction
@OWGF This is awesome.
<looks downtown Toronto, Nathan Phillips Square> hrmm. There's a LOT of stone and concrete slab there.
@OWGF Very nice! But... it's now impossible to protest behind the city hall. Well done!
@OWGF Quite a beautiful transformation, but looks like it is only the sections on the sides, not the entire Hotel de Ville forecourt. The center section is still open space for gatherings. Hopefully no one is losing their head over this.
@OWGF thinking about all the people who will visit, think it’s wonderful and then go home and vote against pedestrianisation, bike lanes and greening their own city/town
@OWGF @joncounts We should send this to every mayor and city council.
@OWGF I love that, although I do have some things to say. It's not directly in the earth, sadly, which is environmentally better. Also, I think the trees are too old to be planted, they might die in the next years. But that's still way better than before ^^
@OWGF And Berlin be like: "Let's keep our Nazi architecture heritage alive and carefully rebuild the concrete desert on this central square." 🤡

@OWGF This looks really nice. As it happens, I have to go to Paris for work in a few weeks, and I'll definitely go there.
@OWGF And at the same time the fascist in Washington DC is doing the opposite. Causing a distraction.
As America sleepwalks into a Dictatorship.
2026 elections AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.
Wake up please.
@OWGF Lovely!! Imagine if humans were intelligent enough to re-imagine parking lots. And transport. And work-from-home.
Dreams on . .
@OWGF Imagine if all the car parks in the world were turned into parks. #DitchTheCar
@OWGF Und Deutschland schläft - wenn ich mir alleine die völlig ungeschützten Bushaltestellen hier in Bad Wildungen, wo ich lebe, betrachte - oder die mit Plexiglas überdachten🤦🏼♀️‼️
@OWGF
@Lichdi
This looks like a @jankamensky animation come true. What must it feel like for him to watch this?
@OWGF That’s not entirely accurate. The planted area of the square is actually quite limited—though it does obstruct the view of one of the city’s major landmarks. Above all, it can hardly be described as an urban forest (this is branding); at best, it amounts to two modest gardens flanking the square. In fact, an underground parking garage lies directly beneath it.
@OWGF
Well .. not reliable.
I know this place by the city hall . There is the underground parking lot just behind. So no real earthly connection. These trees will need extra care. And the budget ....
@OWGF We were there and the new green mini-forests are terrific, a real breath of fresh air in the urban context. The fountain at north end was transformed into a lush park. Thanks for posting the video!
@mrbruno
It's part of a bigger long term plan.

@petitmote
I think I read there is a car park under there.
@OWGF @petitmote underground car park and a subway. planting trees in Paris is quite a challenge..
@alpinefolk But hopefully a few will go home and make the connection and demand their city does better.
@tezoatlipoca
I have only been to Toronto once, many years ago and my strongest memory was how little greenery there was in the parts of the city I went too. And it was summer. 😬
